Job Purpose
The Driver/Messenger ensures the safe transport of people, documents, and goods while adhering to road safety regulations and organizational policies. The role includes maintaining vehicles, reporting defects, and delivering excellent customer service.
Key Performance Areas
1. Messenger Services
- Collect and deliver correspondence, packages, or messages on time.
- Handle items carefully and maintain delivery records.
- Plan efficient delivery routes and confirm deliveries after each trip.
- Maintain communication with departure and destination points.
2. Administration
- Ensure requests for copying or binding are completed efficiently.
- Monitor the availability of messenger services for deliveries to clients, government institutions, and more.
- Sort and archive documents according to policies.
- Maintain records for off-site storage and prepare documentation for inactive files.
3. Transportation
- Transport products, materials, and staff securely to assigned locations.
- Load and unload organizational merchandise.
- Report electrical or mechanical faults to the Facilities Manager.
4. Vehicle, Machinery, and Equipment Maintenance
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensure that all equipment, including binding and copying machines, is maintained.
5. Reporting
- Report vehicle defects, accidents, and traffic violations promptly.
- Maintain logbooks and report delays or maintenance issues to supervisors.
- Track technical maintenance and funds for franking machines.
6. Mail Processing
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
- Prepare bulk mail and track registered mail for delivery.
- Maintain accurate records for all mail operations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: Matric or Grade 12 certificate.
- License: Valid code 10 (EC1/EC) driver’s license and a Professional Driver’s Permit.
- Experience: At least 1 year of driving or messenger service experience.
Technical and Behavioral Competencies
- Ability to assess vehicle safety and roadworthiness.
- Knowledge of transporting goods, people, and equipment.
- Strong communication, planning, and organizational skills.
