The German Academic Exchange Service, known as DAAD, is the world’s largest organization dedicated to promoting international academic exchange for students and researchers. In 2023, DAAD operated with a budget of approximately €839.3 million. This funding primarily comes from various public sources:
- Federal Foreign Office (AA): Contributes about 26.1% of the budget.
- Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF): Provides around 23.8%.
- Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ): Accounts for 6.6%.
- European Union and other international organizations: Make up 40.2% of the funding.
